How to fix "Unable to Activate eSIM" Error on iPhone
Unable to Activate eSIM
You can try again, or contact your carrier for assistance.
After activating your eSIM using a QR code or manual activation code, you may see this error message on your iPhone.
This typically indicates one of two issues:
Your device did not have an active Internet connection during activation, or
The eSIM was already installed successfully in the background.
Below are the recommended steps to resolve the issue.
✅ Solution
1. Check your Internet connection
Before installing or activating an eSIM, your device must be connected to the Internet through Wi-Fi or mobile data. Without an Internet connection, the iPhone cannot verify or complete the eSIM activation.
2. The eSIM may already be installed
In many cases, the eSIM is successfully installed in the background immediately after scanning the QR code. To verify, please check the following settings:
- Open Settings
- Tap Cellular (or Mobile Data in the UK)
- Tap Cellular Data at the top → Select the eSIM plan on the next screen to set it as the active data line.
- Go back to Cellular → scroll down and tap the eSIM plan (may appear as Personal, Travel, or Secondary)
- Ensure Turn On This Line is ON
- Ensure Data Roaming is ON
If your eSIM appears here and the settings above are correct, the eSIM is already active. It will automatically connect once you arrive at your destination—no additional steps are required.
